Description
Trumpet -mouthed lekythos with main scene "Rape of Tripod": in center Apollo at left and Heracles with raised club at right struggling for tripod in center, flanked by Artemis at left running right and Athena at right running right looking back; figures decorated with incision and added white. Main zone defined above and below by two narrow stripes with band of red and white dots on reserve ground above and broad stripe below; lower body, top of base and interior foot, except for reserve center solidly coated; Shoulder decorated with horizontal palmettes with single white dot in base of each with band of short h stripes above; exterior of handle and exterior and interior of mouth solidly coated.
State of Preservation
Intact except for minor chips.
Color
Clay body ca 5YR 5/8 (yellowish red); primary decoration 5YR 2.5/1 (black); addes white 5YR 8/1 (white).
