Description
Tall slender body on spreading discoid base with tall concave cylindrical neck terminating in low sharp-edged rim which slopes to interior; attached to top of rim twisted handle with small rectangular finial at top pierced horizontally. On primary face woman facing left with right foot facing left, left foot forward and to the side with left hand on hip and right hand outstretched holding rectangular box; figure wears chiton clasped at both shoulders with most of hair enclosed in snood and strap-sandals evident particularly on right foot; folds of drapery indicated in wet-drapery style; added white for fillet on head, earring, necklace, and bracelets on both wrists; pair of white dots on each foot of uncertain purpose; on top of box 3 white egg-shaped devices with 2 white dots set among them; in field behind figure reserved quatrifoil device with decoration in added white. Large palmettes on either side of figure with above figure running around the vessel a laurel leaf band on shoulder and on either side of neck palmette with tall leaf separating them on either side. On secondary side heavily draped male facing right with only slight articulation folds of himation; hair solid mass of black with reserved outline, white fillet with tongue-like device on forehead; one white dot, ? weight, at end of portion of himation thrown over right shoulder; figure flanked by in front single and behind slender leaf-like elements. Coated all over (except for reserve band under neck and most of lower edge of rim) on the exterior and interior of neck with semi-shiny black paint.
State of Preservation
Intact but with considerable cracking in lower portion particularly on primary side. Paint badly crazed on upper portion of neck.
